Re: almost started up smoking again

Thanks Stephanie and congratulations on your size 6.

The doctor did a blood test on me and said it would be difficult to eat more
balanced than I do... The friend I went on vacation with ate more than me,
consumed alcohol where I didn't and is shorter and a lot thinner than I am.
She also smokes. And she didn't gain any weight.

She eats like that most of the time too and doesn't understand why I gain
weight if I eat the way she does. I'm on a very balanced reasonable diet
most of the time!

The doctor says I have a genetic predisposition to stock fat.

So it goes.

Most of my life has been unfair like this.
But thanks for your answer. I really appreciate it.

Katie

You're right. If I ever manage, it will take a couple years to lose. But

I've been struggling mightily to lose weight and succeeding only very
slowly. I went away for one week of vacation (which means I let up my
guard
and actually allowed myself to have desserts and other things normal
people
eat and so I put on 2 kilos!)

I have no grandchildren and I don't want to end up in an old folks home
so
I
have no reason to live to a ripe old age. So I was very very tempted to
buy
a pack of cigarettes yesterday. Since I am not allowed any of the other
pleasures in life like eating, vacationing, feeling good in my
clothing...
Added to that I have a chronic pain condition so smoking seemed like it
might be a help.

The only thing that stopped me buying a pack is that I have one hell of a
good meter and also am still living with my husband who also quit. If I
start smoking he has said I will have to find another apartment to move
into
and that is almost impossible in this town. Also, If he doesn't follow
through and throw me out it might influence him to start again and that's
one thing I definitely don't want on my conscience.

But geez I was really close to buying a pack...
But I guess I'll just die of obesity instead.

First, Good Job not buying that pack. That tends to be a pretty painful
way
not to reach a ripe old age!

Now, on weight. Just like smoking, losing weight is not a short term
thing.
It is about relearning habits and finding new pleasures. And jut like
quitting smoking, it happens when you are ready, usually after several
unsucessful attempts. I went from a size 16 to a size 6. It took about a
year and a half. I, too, was pretty bummed out about never being able to
enjoy eating. But I find now that I can still enjoy the foods that I love,
just in smaller portions and with less frequency. I find that I don't want
to and even can't eat the portions I used to. And I find that foods that
previously did not appeal to me much, like raw fresh fruits and veggies,
are
much more yummy. I look forward to tasting them more fully once my taste
buds are free of the affetcts of smoking.

In the meantime, you say your don't likek your body. take a look in the
mirror. Take a look at your eyes. And say to yourself, those eyes and that
brain are the strength that allowed me to be smober for over *2 years.*
They
are beautiful and strong.

Keep posting that meter for those of us that have meters that look like

Three days, 8 minutes and 29 seconds. 45 cigarettes not smoked, saving
$11.72. Life saved: 3 hours, 45 minutes.

You rock.
