Keven, Now you know I mean this in the nicest possible way. I've always
liked you and I know your daughter is lucky to have you. But... (you knew
that was coming, right?) you can't make her quit smoking. No matter how
much you want it to happen. If you push in any way then the only thing that
usually comes from that is the other person pulls away, instead of toward,
the thing you want them to do. Especially our children. I've learned this
the hard way. With addicts and the co-dependent parent(brother, sister,
friend) there have to be rules and one of the rules is that you get to state
your opinion exactly once. Then you have to let them go so they can do the
right thing on their own. Particularly when they're grown children.
Heck, once they get to be about 15 that is about all you can do for them
until everything comes back to it's senses and starts letting us discipline
our children once again. And I don't mean corporal punishment per se. Damn
government hase cut off our legs and made children gods. (But that's
something for another forum. Sorry.)
My goodness, there would have been no way in hell I would have been able to
come here and be myself enough to be able to quit if either of my parents
were here watching me. Maybe you could promise her you'll stay the hell
away for a year or something if she really wants to be here. Of course I
have no idea what kind of relationship you have and she might like having
you here. I'm just saying how I would feel.
I hope you take this in the manner it is intended and know that I'm
supporting you in this. When your daughter wants to come here and ask for
help like the rest of us, then she'll get my full support, too.
Kimberly

You're already doing the exact right thing. You are leading by example.

| Thanks for the welcome for my daughter Astrog.
| I just set up an account for her. I don't even know if she'll use it, but
at
| least it's there for her now.
| She smoked the next day after I posted her quitting.
