since my hubby and I quit smoking on my father's birthday. My father was a
heavy smoker and smoking doubtless shortened his life.
However, I didn't quit smoking in order to live longer, but to have a
better
quality of life. And I do have a better quality of life: I am not as
fatigued as I used to be. I am not a slave to my cigarettes. I don't have
to either stink the place up, or step out constantly to smoke.
I want recent quitters to know that I smoked for over 35 years and it had
become such a huge part of me that I could hardly even *imagine* myself as
a
non-smoker. And yet here I am, two years an ex-smoker. It wasn't always
easy. It demands a very firm decision in the beginning and then the
patience
to let time heal you, to let time help you forget the person you were.
Every so often I still smoke one or two cigarettes in my dreams at night.
I
don't know why I still have those dreams but I figure it's okay to do
that.
Katie
