that "those circumstances" that we all complain about, now and then, and NOT
an excuse to smoke!

First night back on the line in my restaurant last night after 6 weeks
post surgical recovery.
Wow, it was really tough! I'm out of shape and problems inherent to the
rest. business reared their ugly heads. A longtime (4yrs.) employee who
definatley should have been let go last fall, but I failed to own up to
my responsibilities at that time, forced my hand last night and his
tenure has come to an end. After a long long talking, we were able to
end it as amicably as possible, each of us owning up to shortcomings
and deciding that change was needed for both of us. In the end he
actually didn't storm away as so often happens in restaurants, rather
agreed to almost 3 more weeks of work before moving on. Handshakes and
hugs sealed the deal. ( I hope) I would rather have a clean seperation
sooner but the fact is I need his help for little while longer, I'm not
quite up to speed physically and my wife has been doing my job and hers
for 6 weeks now. However, this is the really important thing,
I made it through all of that without smoking! I am physically,
mentally and emotionally exhausted but proud. I am also grateful for
the amazing support I am recieving, I can't do this alone and I finding
I don't have to. A friend I've had since grade school, who stopped
smoking 3 years ago now calls me every day to spur me on, my dad calls
often with pats on the back. All of you are fantastic, and my wife, I
would be hopeless without her.
Now I'm off to begin 6 weeks of physical therapy to regain strength and
range of motion, it promises to be painful but I am eager to start so
that I may complete my recovery from this surgery. I would show my
quitmete but I have not figured out how to do that yet, any way it says

Thanks to all.
