A Crappy Rant for a Crappy Day

Disclaimer: I purposefully wrote the following without the use of
profanity. It did not seem a normal or natural thing to do, but I
decided to give it a try. As I read over it now, it doesn't seem
nearly as entertaining as it would had I used a few (or a lot of)
four-letter words. But, since I decided to do it that way, I did it.
It's kind of like I decided to quit smoking, and that isn't too much
fun right now either.

Also, as I read over it, it seems like a complaint on the drive into
work this morning. It's not. It's a concrete example of just how
crappy things have been since about Saturday, with the occasional
periods where I haven't wanted to smoke. Somebody please remind me
about how it gets better.

Finally, as I read over it, I realize it's a long, whiney rant. So, if
you don't want to read a long, whiney rant that isn't even that
entertaining, you can skip to the next thread. If you want to read the
thoughts of someone who has been without cigarettes for nearly two
months and completely off nicotine for a week, read on. Warning....I'm
not in a particularly good mood, nor have I been for the last three
days for that matter. End of long, whiney disclaimer.

It's raining here. In fact, it's been raining non-stop for about the
last three days. I left the house later than usual for work this
morning, so in addition to the extra traffic that comes with leaving
1/2 hour later, I had to put up with all of the idiots who either can't
or simply refuse to drive in the rain. This included the 3-ton pickup
truck who first decided to use the right-turn-only lane as his own
personal passing lane to get around a long line of traffic that also
had someplace to go (though obviously not as important as his) and then
proceded to drive 25 in a 35 mph zone for two miles with no place to
pass once traffic started moving.

So, I finally got past him and onto the interstate. Of course,
everybody is driving 15 miles under the speed limit. This is an eight
lane highway with a 65 mph speed limit and there's not a single lane
going over 55! Since it's raining and I don't have an umbrella to walk
to the cafeteria after I get to work, I decide to stop at my favorite
convenience store for a ham biscuit.

It's no coincidence that this store happens to sell individual
cigarettes and I had every intention of buying one. In fact, I made a
point of going to the register where I knew there was a styrofoam cup
of them. They were $0.30 each and I honestly think the only reason I
didn't get one was that I only had $0.25 change left over after I
bought my biscuit and milk.

But, I didn't buy one. I wanted to, but I didn't. I then proceded to
get behind an SUV that decided to drive 35 in a 55! And this was on a
two lane, no passing road. I was behind it until about a mile from
work. Well, that was my commute this morning.

I don't know if it's not smoking is making me such a nervous wreck or
what, but I've had just about enough of this! I'm grouchy, my head
hurts, I don't want to do anything but take a nap, and I'm sick of it!
I know that if I smoke a cigarette, it won't change anything except my
nonsmoking status, but if not smoking means wanting one all the time,
then I wonder if it's worth it.

Well, that's it for now. The reason I posted this is because I can. I
can come to this newsgroup and you, much better than anyone else I
know, can relate to really crappy days that seem to be crappy purely
because you no longer smoke cigarettes. I think I'll go blow up a
tobacco warehouse. That should make me feel better.

Later,
Rob
I have not smoked for one month, three weeks, 15 hours, 49 minutes
including the one I didn't smoke 1 1/2 hours ago on the way to work.
