Hi, Quitters,
I put this together for the Fibro NG and I thought it would be good to
put it here, too. I have a lotta experience with the good, bad and ugly of
disaster relief. :-( So here's my advice:
First off...if you give to the Red Cross, make sure it's
blood yer donating, if yer meds. will allow ya to. Yeah, it may not be
popular to say don't send yer $$ to the Red Cross, but don't. They put money
where it shouldn't have gone last year and didn't get it to where they
shoulda. Ta heck with sending them money...they don't help ya if they can
avoid helping ya. :-(
Bless those who actually do send volunteers and food and clothing and
water and aid:
a.. United Methodist Committee on Relief: 1-800-554-8583 or
http://gbgm-umc.org/umcor/emergency/hurricanes/2005/#katrina
a.. Salvation Army: 1-800-SAL-ARMY or www.salvationarmyusa.org
a.. Episcopal Relief & Development: 1-800-334-7626 or www.er-d.org
a.. American Baptist Churches USA (ABC-USA) :
https://www.disasternews.net/donations/abc.php
And when it comes to the hard work of rebuilding when folks can't afford to
or their ins. company has gone bankrupt the most amazing folks in the whole
world are:
Mennonite Disaster Service: https://www.disasternews.net/donations/mds.php
The Mennonites are still here in this area one year later....they'll be
working to rebuild after Katrina for more than a year, certainly.
If you can contribute...great. If not, don't feel guilty; just send healing
wishes and good thoughts for the victims. That'll help, too.
This is some FEMA tips: http://www.fema.gov/rrr/help2.shtm FEMA is a very
professional group. They can't give a whole lotta aid...after all it's your
tax dollar they're spending; but they are a caring and fair bunch. They've
gotten 1000% better than after Andrew. FEMA stunk, then. LOL I sure hope we
don't ever hafta rate 'em again. I do think they'll distribute aid as fairly
as they can for Katrina's victims, tho'. B+...if they had more funding
they'd get an A.
For the critters there, send donations to the The Humane Society of the
United States Disaster Relief Fund at: http://www.hsus.org/
Thanks for all you did for Florida last year. And TIA for all you'll do for
the Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida people/animals this year to
help them in coming outta the dark.
Hugs from Rosie
