Amen to that.
Lately, Spitzer (and Carr) seem to have a lot of very vocal adherents here.
Some people need that sort of rigidity --that tight-assed, "one chance only"
sort of treatment. If it works for them, well....I dunno what to say.
Hooray. Not my cuppa, though. To see it so staunchly defended is also a
little scary. Might give newbies the idea that there's a single RIGHT way to
do things, and that it's all been written down for them, and that any
straying from the prescribed path is madness and a waste of their focus. Why
make people doubt themselves just when they need all the confidence and
determination they can muster? I'm not a fan of Spitzer's approach,
obviously. But things go in waves here, don't they?

Never smoked, as far as I recall.
Not the *best* credentials to have when presenting yourself as an expert in
the field, I think. It's a little hard to take someone completely seriously
when they have no first-hand experience, and yet they offer their method and
their support and then demand that you toe their line--or not let the door
hit you in the ass on the way out.

It used to be, not too long ago, that there was a much more "try whatever
you want" sort of a vibe here. No real emphasis on or obvious slant toward a
particular method. Cycles and cycles...the old arguments. There were some
very spirited debates regarding the strict, anti-NRT faction's rejection of
any "artificial" help. People find something that works for them and they
cling to it and wave it about like it's the One Real Truth. "Take what you
need and leave the rest" is given a helluva lot of lip service, but it's not
too hard to detect when "the rest" is summarily dismissed in favor of one
narrow choice over a host of others.

When, oh when, will you all realize that pickle juice is the only
acceptable, magically effective and universally correct method?

Bonus Hint: A chicken (or better yet, an eagle...) dipped in pickle juice
and stapled to the forehead will guarantee that your descendants-- to the
7th generation-- will never smoke.
