Re: On Being a Regular ....

Hi Ross,

I don't take many meds but I am in a wheelchair 24/7 so I have the same
problem. One doctor put me on 1 Senakot daily (it's suppose to be a mild
natural laxative) but since I get a reverse reaction off a lot of things
....well it didn't work for me but I've heard others say it works great.

For me, I have found if I make sure I eat a bowl of oatmeal with berries
and an apple (all of which is very high in fiber) for breakfast everyday
and lots of fruit & vegetables during the day and a green salad with
dinner. Another words lots & lots of fiber.

O, yes, I also make sure I eat 1 big dill pickle each day. Hey, don't
laugh. a waitress told me about that. I was at a beach party when I was
in high school and had run up to a little restuarant to get a couple of
items and I had asked for some dill pickles (I love them). The waitress
gave me a little baggie full and said she hoped I wasn't going to eat
them all by myself because it would give me diarrhea. I found out the
hard way she was right! I've also heard Metamusil and other fiber tabs
work good too. Metamusil tastes nasty so you might want to mix honey, orange juice or ginger ale in it. Just remember.....the name of the game is FIBER....the more the better.

Anyway, that's what works for me. I don't take Metamusil though...too
yukkie and I happen to love almost all fruits & veggies so that's what I
snack on when I get hungry.

With all the drugs I'm taking -- Baclofen, Detrol, Flomax, Proscar --
it seems to affect me by blocking me up. I have found that warm
prune juice -- with the pulp -- has just the opposite effect, causing
me to defecate within the hour, in to keep defecating for the rest of
the day.

There must be a happy medium! What foods have you discovered that do
not constantly you, nor cause diarrhea?

Recipes for these foods would be good too...

Thanks.

Ross
