i want to add a few words for donn and betty as i see it through my
eyes.
at the ms conventions donn could strike up a conversation from the
youngest to the oldest. he is much wiser that bud wiser:-) he just made
others feel good. and i belive they lost sight of anything being wrong
with him physically.
he is diplomatic, well informed, and a very nice person and his humour
is something to behold. so i feel blessed to know him and betty.
yes there love and respect for one another shines clearly in their
eyes.
their daughter kathy who is no longer here had both bettys and donns
similarities. she was strong and spent part of her last day on this
earth walking for us msers.
so did dexter kathies son who was so young and tends to look like his
grandpa.
betty also walked as did my john who got pooped out but kept on rollin.
her loss was a most difficult shock and so damn sad. if anything it was
a nice afternoon filled with memories of a happy family. betty went and
got my hot dog. it tasted special... the whole day was special and never
once did donn complain about his ms. niether did his family even show a
hint.
donn is a regular guy who at one time had one heck of a career and he
smiles and jokes a lot with the deck of cards he has been given...
donn if he were much of complainer wouldn't have set a side his ms long
enough to make the marathons. but he is a trooper as is his family.
donn chose to dance with betty first when i ask if i could have the
first dance. i wanted to be the first dance because he couldn't run over
my toes:-)
the song ' written in the wind altho when i sing it i change a lot of
lyrics to match my mood at the time is my song of that moment in time we
all had together..
if i could write or say type better i could write songs, poems, and even
a book on this.... forgive me donn if i have said to much... but you
really are special and what you write on the asms is you:-)...

Dory,
Thank you for the very kind, insightful and caring words, especially
about our Kathie and her son Dexter. Betty and I have always tried to
do the best we can. She has ever made me want and work toward being th
best man that I can be. And yes, we miss our duaghter. She was
something so special in our lives. She had friends who still celebrate
her life because of the influence she had on them. She never let them
down. Oh do I have stories of her good deeds. I learned so much from
her.
We, Betty and I, are traveling the MS road together with, as you
clearly point, dealing with the cards that deck of cards given to me.
My Betty is an incredible woman in my life and our children and two
grandchildren.
I share the beautiful, pointed, and funniest humor stuff I've read on
this wounderful group of human beings with my Betty. Your humor is
keeps me in stitches because of how you so quickly adapt your
observations into words. I will not warn some fool who wants to tangle
with our Dory. Rather I wait to see the results, and those words are
you from a lightening fast thought processes. Don't give me that
routine about being slow or your use of poor spelling because that is
part of your wit. You sucker the unsuspecting in and Wham! They get to
join in the show for the entertainment for all of us.
I choose not to complain because it takes up too much of my time when
I enjoy each and every second. Sure, I hurt; sure, I have the
symptoms; sure, I have the same fears as many of us have; sure, I do
not like what MS is doing to me. I get frustrated and angry as we all
do when the mind gets fuzzy, the body don't work and there is no light
an the end of the tunnel.
But I must add, I am still an old curmudgeon for the purposes of
taking a few verbal shots at the targets that come here, to ASMS, and
think they can reign superior to the others. Thus I start acting like
a guard who wishes to protect all of the good people on ASMS.
My Betty has taught me well and I love her so.
Now let's get back to doing the ASMS stuff.
Donn
