As a user of Gmail, I don't consider it to be a junk e-mail provider,

Hi Dadmanlarry,

I stand corrected, and agree with you - Gmail (and other email
providers like it) are terrific. I'm thankful they're there. For
free no less!

It was one of the warning signs to me, however, when I followed the
spam link above, and saw the contact email address for this company
was from a free site. Golly gee, given everything that this company's
amazing and fabulous new product does, you'd think the world would be
beating a path to their door, but no, they gotta spam online support
newsgroups to get noticed. <sigh>

on that note,
Good night all,

I too, use GMail, primarily because of the archiving. In the past, I've
lost mail, due to computer melt-down. Now I have my mail locally, on my
computer, backed up on another computer, and also, as a third level of
redundancy, keep it archived on GMail. But then, I'm talking about
*personal* email.

Now, that being said, I agree with the sentiment regarding businesses.
If they want to, at least, *appear* somewhat legit, they should have
their own domain. Its not even expensive, for cryin' out loud. You can
register a domain name for around $10 (USD) per year, and many
registrars will include a limited number of email accounts.

I too, look skeptically at a "business" that uses either a free email
account, or a free website. For one, it looks unprofessional. Second,
I wonder about the legitimacy. It is, to me, a big red flag, and
honestly, one that would make me immediately look elsewhere.

'Course, the spam doesn't help them, either. ;-)
