I've had positive MRIs several times.I had evoked potential tests
twice andthe results weren't that good the first time, but got worse
the second time. The same goes for the two EMGs. They got worse the
second time around.

I've had spinal taps twice, too. Both were negative, but my
experiences were at both ends of the spectrum. I had the first in an
ER, with just a curtain pulled around me. Just as soon as they were
through, they sent me home...driuving myself. The second time, I was
in a department made for this type of procedures. They made me lie on
my back for the recommended time and made sure I had someone else to
drive me home. Luckily, I didn't get a severe headache either time. I
just got a tinge of one and drank a little Pepsi...my drink of choice.

My neuro is keeping me in limbo, pending another relapse, I think. The
big problem is that I'm never sure what a relapse is. I've been
accused of being a hypochondriac for so long (the last time was just
this morning), that I brush off many of the things that happen to me.
I'm using a cane, but I don't really know how much is for my swagger
and how much is to alleviate the severe back pain I have from my
stenosis. I'm scheduled to have a cage screwed into my L4-L5 vertebrae
next Wednesday and I might find out more then...if everything goes
perfect. The past four or five days, my hands have gotten suddenly very
weak and the coordination has gotten somewhat worse. Right nopw, it
takes two hands to even light an automatic strike cigarette lighter,
and that takes all the strength I can muster. I can forget about
opening a can with my manuel can opener and hitting these keys take a
lot of pressure...to me. I just keep asking myself if this is
considered a relapse or if it's just me getting weaker. At this rate,
I'll probably just spend the rest of my life in limbo!

I'm so tired of all this!!!

The
neuro that I see dx'd me with a combination of symptoms and a spinal tap.
I
was very upset about the spinal, but honestly I made it into a LOT more
then
what it was. Just make sure and listen to the doctor. Lay still while
there, and make sure and LAY down when you get home (Don't do ANYTHING).
Also on the way home, put the seat back in the car so you aren't sitting
upright during the car ride.

Hi folks-

Does a negative MRI of one's head completely rule out MS? The
neurologist
says it's been ruled out but both the ENT and neurotologist are still
concerned and are talking about a spinal tap. (There are other reasons
to
not fully trust this neurologist. If necessary, another one will be
used.)

Can MS show up in a spinal tap and NOT in the MRI?

Just in case- what is a spinal like? Painful?

Thanks for any info-
