Weddings and funerals: the source of a lot of "family feuds!"
It really is a shame, isn't it? It is one of my pet peeves.
Both are times that the family should be coming together, not trying to
drive each other apart.
With regard to weddings, there are only two people who count: the bride
& the groom. Everyone else should shut up, accommodate them & be happy
about it!
With regard to funerals, I would say it would depend on who is paying
for it. If I am footing the bill, I would expect that my decisions
would hold the most weight. Now, if they want to help pay for it, that
is a different matter.
If I am not paying for it, I don't think it is within my rights to
demand anything. I may discuss it with whoever is paying for it, but
I'm not going to get bent out of shape or cause problems if I'm not
accommodated. (I don't know what I would request. "No, I want blue
flowers, not purple!" "I want a wood casket instead of a metal one."
??? It just doesn't matter to me.)
Of course, I am, by nature, a pretty easy going guy. If someone in my
family had a specific request, as long as it wouldn't break the bank, I
would probably go along with it.
After all, a funeral is a time to grieve and to honor the deceased, not
to fight or argue.
