Son, you sick, drunk, stoned, or what? :)
You've written a post I 99% agree with!
How in Hell can I go redneck on ya and write snotty flames if you keep
doing that, eh? :)
You don't sound liberal to me so much as you sound small "l"
libertarian. If it doesn't infringe anybody else's liberty, who cares
what they do?
John,
Hmm, I think you have put a name to how I feel. I have always
considered myself an independent. I don't completely agree with the
platforms/positions of either major party, some of each, but not all.
But your last sentence above basically sums up my position.
Do I sort of have it?
i think you do,,, i am for anyone doing anything to their Own Bodiy as long
as it does not infringe on anyone else's privacy or their person,,,
so if my pot smoke bothers someone else,, it is my duty to alleviate this
situation and ensure the others right to not smell my smoke is honoured,,,
i feel this way in every aspect of daily life,, from driving a car, i dont
drink and drive, ever ,,
to my music- i dont blast parental guidance only type music i love, to the
ears of some one elses children,,, or my own, kids,,,,,
i follow a more common sense life-
have fun,, but dont overblow it,,
as long as someone is not hurting anyone else,, and both parties are
consenting,, then anything goes far as i am concerned,,, as long as i dont
have to watch it!!!! or hear about it,,, i could care less ,,,as long as
nobody is being hurt,, uneless they asked to be,,,????

My thoughts exactly!
Sorry for going political here, but you touched a nerve, and one I
strongly believe in.
Speaking of consenting & not hurting anyone:
I just don't get this whole gay marriage ban thing, personally. Well,
other than as a blatant political play for votes.
I'd just like to know, *exactly* how gay marriage "threatens the
institution of marriage"??? Can anyone explain that to me? In clear &
simple terms?
Exactly how does it "undermine" my marriage to Deb? Will it suddenly
invalidate it? Will it mean that I love her less or I am no longer
committed to her? Just how would it affect *our* relationship?
Will it mean the end of heterosexual marriages? Will it mean that we
are no longer Little Alex's parents? Will it mean that men & women will
no longer have children together, wiping out the human species?
The simple fact is that if gay couples get married, it simply has *no
effect whatsoever* on my life! The only people it affects are the
religious extremists who can't stand it if *other people* don't abide by
*their* religious beliefs.
Why should anyone be held to someone else's *religious* belief? Hmm,
you know, it seems like they want the government to *impose* a religious
belief on everyone. Huh, kinda sounds like what the Taliban did in
Afghanistan. That was bad, but if we do it, its good?
OK, enough ranting, guess I just wanted to get that off my chest. I
just wonder, though, how much could be accomplished if we focused on
issues that *actually* have an effect on people's day to day lives.

(Oops, he's Canadian? Term Limits? No problem, we'll just amend the
constitution!)

(I know I probably screwed up the usage of 'affects' vs. 'effects', I'm
having a hard time remembering the proper usage.)
