Glad to hear you're ok. I was thinking about you guys when I saw the
news. (Since Tick is posting, I'm assuming he's ok, too.)

As usual I got a slight sprinkle...our drought continues in this area.
I'm about 220 miles north of Houston and live in what I have started
calling a "bubble". Even when storms move up from the gulf or from the
west off the Rockies they always seem to split and go around me.

Hehe, sounds like when I was stationed on Guam. They'd ramp up the
typhoon condition (For observers: thats military-ese for "Holy Crap!,
looks like were gonna get hit! Similar to the Terror Threat Level that
they scroll across the bottom of the screen on CNN, only without the
pretty colors), and we'd go through our checklist, wrapping equipment,
etc. Basically spending the day (or night) sealing/securing everything.

Then the parties started. Nothing like a typhoon party. Until the
storm turns, they drop the condition level and recall everyone. Then a
whole bunch of hung-over guys/gals get to go and undo everything that
had been done in preparation. What fun!

In three years there, we went through it many, many times, but the
storms always turned at the last minute.

The
lake came back to normal during the winter but is already back to a few
feet low. Hay fields that should be on their second or even third
cutting have only been cut once and the folks around here that depend on
their hay business are struggling to stay afloat.

Fire danger is once again high and if something doesn't happen by the
end of the month a burn ban will be put in place...which means no
fireworks for the 4th of July.

Fire ants are worse than usual and the friggin' racoons got every one of
the duck eggs two nights ago.

Then I got up and read the news this morning. After that I realize life
on my little chunk of the world is pretty damn good by comparison.

A thought comes to mind: It's all about perspective, isn't it?.

Hope the drought breaks & you get some *reasonable* rate of rain, not
all at once, mind you. :-)
