When we think that disasters only happen to "other people," we find it
easy to blame the victim. "If only they had. . .if only they hadn't. .
.." so the situation these people are in becomes their fault. It won't
happen to us, because we are smart enough to get ourselves out of it. .
..we think.

I think of the old proverb about "walking a mile" in someone else's
shoes. I have never had to decide whether or not to leave my home for
an unknown, perhaps worse, situation when a disaster threatened. At
least not yet. . .

Natural disasters can happen anywhere. . .and most of us are totally
unprepared.
