Id say I gained, intentionally, about 15 lbs. But when I went off it I lost
my weight. :*(

Have I sent you a pic of me? I think the sort of weight gain youre talking
about is, and please correct me if Im wrong, at the really high dosages.
Its a very safe drug, but weight gain *can* be a concern at really high
dosages, like they use for epilepsy or Bipolar. (its also used in bipolar
and emotional lability. {laughing or crying at innapropriate moments, which
alot of MSers experience}) I think mentally/emotionally I calmed down
somewhat. Life was enjoyable. But who knows if that was due to the pain
relief, which was very real, or due to the nootropic properties? But I did
notice a difference. I think. Who knows? But it certainly worked for the
pain.

I think the only real concern as far as side effects, at really high
dosages, is in letting ones eating get out of control due to it increasing
the quality of appetite. Ive no appetite. Never had one, never will, other
than for when on that drug. (or a toke of hoootch, lol) I could eat two
EVERYTHING bagels with half a pack of philly cream cheese on it. MMMMM.....
Back when I gained more weight than I wanted I cut out my bagels (never the
chocolate donuts) and lost weight fast. Mmm... bagels... Huh? Oh.
anyway... Diabetes can be a concern if too much weight is gained because it
changes insulin release and receptor site sensitivity. (hope thats not to
technical.)

> as an EXPECTED effect?

No. One must intentionally overeat in order to gain weight. It doesnt
change metabolism, so the old adage still applies. Calories in, calories
out. One can only gain weight if they overeat. Rose, now that youve
brought it up, and now that Im thinking about it, this may be a good drug
for you to take. Theres no doubt it made food more enjoyable. Ask, if you
want to try, to have your doc prescribe it off label. It does make food
seem more yummy. I recall you saying something about worrying about gaining
too much weight. Dont worry. As thin as you are half the weight you gain
will be muscle. Thats good. You need that. Dont worry about getting
fat/flabby, etc., as there may come a day when that weight saves your life.
Your and I's goal should be to put as much weight on as possible. Die fat,
die happy; thats my motto.

My grandmother is nearing 300lbs and her hundredth birthday. Gotta love
those genetics. Then again she has alzhiemers and is dumb as a post. All
she can talk about is how she enjoyed her stay with Ronald Reagan at the
whitehouse. She's never met the man. LOL.

I gained weight. But I was trying to. It does dope you up a tad, and it
certainly makes eating more fun. Thats why I think this might be a good
drug for you to try in regard to appetite. It also, oddly enough, given
that it dopes you up a tad, gave me more energy. Not the fidgity kind, but
actual G-ds honest energy. You need that as well. So it relieves
neuropathic pain, cures crazy people, fixes epileptics, and returns the joy
of eating. What more could you want? And this is another good thing for
you, it *may* increase progesterone. If you eat lots of cruciferous
vegetables (broccoli, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage...) which
prevent estrogen from converting to Oestrogen (It has indole-3-carbinol)
then your womanlyness will be enhanced... if-n you know what I mean.

On my recomendation one of Bill Phillips bodybuilding products includes
indole-3-carbinol. It blocks estrogen from being converted to the bad
estrogen. This prevents gynecomastia (bitch-tits) in bodybuilders who use
androgenic steroids. (not the kind we take...) And helps prevent cancerous
and non-cancerous growths of the breasts, uteris, etc., in woman. So eat
your cruciferous veggies. Okay, Im yapping....

A friend of mine, a past pro bodybuilder, Rob Schuh (also a premier jazz
drummer on many albums) who btw has 4 kidneys, had breast reduction because
of steroids. Then, years later, had to have it again. Thats gotta hurt.
Youde think the first surgery would have made him shy away from the type of
steroids that convert, in part, to estrogen. But no, he wanted pro caliber
muscles, in addition to his boobies. LOL. (He is very open about this so
Im not saying anything that is private.)

Anyway, theres no way to take it and not have the anti-bipolar and epileptic
qualities it has. So consider them benefits. Initially my docs didnt want
me to take it because of my brain surgery and its epileptic qualities, then,
after everything failed, they talked me into it. Thank heavens. You are a
wired up person like me, so it may calm you a bit and make you happier. It
did that for me, I think. Or maybe it was because I was no longer in pain.
Dont know, dont care, I just know that it worked good magic on my brain and
allowed me to enjoy eating, rather than looking at it as a chore.

But now my pain is so infrequent, except lately because of the heat, that I
dont feel its worth it to take 24/7. So Im resorting to symptom manegement
of another more doseable kind. ;^)

Yap, yap, yap...

But yes, to answer your question, it does affect appetite and that can lead
to weight gain in people who like to eat.
