???

Here is a cutaway view. There is a needle with the threaded base that
attaches it to the pen. There are 2 covers for the needle itself, as
shown in this picture.

I don't try to replace the paper seal on the back of the assembly.
I simply store the opened/used needle in a small zip-lock bag.

That an example. I am not recommending this seller, nor am I disparaging
him. There are many suppliers and a wide range of prices.

Youre a gem :-)

sorry, I am late into this thread, but WHY?

my pen has a perfectly good cover which protects the needle quite
adequately. I usually get about 10-12 uses out of a single needle before
I accidentally bend it. I also find that I prefer the LONG ones, over the
short needles, but that may only be my personal taste

Oh yowie! I can't even imagine using the long ones. I started with the
short ones and when I would insert them, most of the time I felt like I was
shoving a steel rod into my body. At least half of the time they caused
bruising, sometimes severe. There was often bleeding and quite often a
raised bump afterwards.

Then one day the pharmacy gave me the mini needles. They put a sticker on
the box telling me it was the same medication but it might look different.
I had no choice but to use them because I was in the hospital for a sleep
study and had no other needles.

The first time I used one I was like... Wha? Where's the pain? Where's
the bleeding? I have had bleeding a couple of times from the mini needles
but it was nothing like what I would get with the short ones. Never had a
bruise. Never had a bump.

Bruising, bumps, and bleeding are usually NOT the needle's fault. Probably the worst cause is Prednisone, but Cumadin, Plavix, and a few other drugs make people susceptible. There is also a condition, most common in the elderly, where your skin loses enough elasticity that you bleed more easily.

Of course, if someone ELSE is giving the shots, simply slight movements in your body can cause it. If YOU are giving the shot, your whole body moves, so you rarely "scythe" the end. If you have Parkinson, Carpel tunnel, MS, or other tremors, you will cause brusis
.
