Re: Partial Denial - Learning from Mistakes?

: I overindulged today, Susan. M-i-l said she was getting my wife (who's
sick

Injected
: 15 units of Novorapid beforehand instead of the usual 13 (I estimated
I'd

riding.
: Measured my bg - 100 - <That's> better. Measured an hour after that - bg
up

: Of course I don't make experiments like these the norm. I knew I'd get a

same,
: I used this overindulgement to learn or at least confirm something.

That's a kind of hard way to ive, having to do all that execise bicycle
riding for 3 kreplach. Would a bit more insulin have made it possible not
to have to knock yourself out on that cycle without making you gain
weight or do you fear a hypo?

I do not use insulin and have not for about 26 yers. I used a fixed
amount(22 units) of lente way back when first diabnosed. After I lost my
70 pound I ws taken off the insulin and went without meds for 10 yers,
but my numbers(not my wieght) began creeping up so I finally admitted
defeat adn went to the diabees clinic adn was started on the Metformin tht
I am still on today. The world of insulin has changed so in the
intervening years that I have no idea , really , of how to work with it.

I do the 10km on the exercise bike every day, and it often does take a lot
of willpower. It is now a bit slower than it used to be, even with the
improvement due to my showering my lower body with cold water beforehand.

I am reluctant to increase my insulin dose further than the 3 units I have
already increased it by a couple of years ago because of the reduced
effectiveness of exercise due to the lower cycling speed. Although several
years ago I had requested my endo to put me on insulin, I don't ever want to
rely on it in more than the minimum amounts. Over the past few weeks I have
once again decreased my carb intake. I'd rather manage my diabetes for as
long as I can with the help of diet and exercise.
