I used to be very allergic, but the worst symptoms only happened around
calico cats and long haired ones. I didn't realize that til I'd adopted
a teeny calico kitten and had to give her to friends the next day because
I could no longer see with my contact lenses... so much protein in
response to the allergy. My own cats used to give me itchy eyes and
hives during peak seasonal allergy season, but now I rarely test at all
positive for cat allergy, and when I do, it's very slight, I have no
symptoms and my allergist will just add a touch of it to my shots.

I'm allergic too but most cats don't bother me. I read somewhere that
dark cats cause fewer allergies. I have never had a white or orange one
but I have noticed when I am around them they do cause me to sneeze.

If you spray them with Plasticote (you can guess what that is), they produce
<no> allergies!
