Which reminds me ... gotta go get another one. . . . . . .

thumb drives are 'limited use' items

write them ?? 3 ?? 4 times and they ..... fry themselves

Must be the brand you are using. I have had several over the past few
years. The only one that has ever given me any trouble is one that
came as in integral part of a cheesy Microsoft advertising gimmick.
(And that one still works, just not reliably.)

But I no longer endorse them, because now, you can buy a hard drive
that fits in a pocket and is powered by the USB port you plug it into.

I have to go out in the white stuff today to return one. $89 US for
500 GB with a three-year warranty. I could buy a much smaller one for
less, and void the warranty by opening it up and putting in an 80GB
SSD that I have sitting around idle. An SSD has no moving parts, so it
is (1) almost certain to still work if you drive off with it lying on
the roof of your car* and (2) is _much_ faster than a hard drive (it's
basically the same technology as a thumb drive).

*which, since it fits in your pocket, is not likely to happen

That's what we use now. My son's is a brick though, they have become
more sleek these days. But his still works so what the heck. Mine is a
WD Passport, would fit in a pocket. Really important stuff we also burn
to DVD as well though.

Like asd archival stuff? :-)
