Thanks but this article isn't recent either .. It's from 2008 .. I was hoping that maybe there was new research .. My doctor told me of a doctor friend of his that was using this and that is why I am trying it ... I am basically just happy that I am no longer young .. hopefully I won't have to put up with my crappy life much longer.

Diane, there are concerns over pancreatitis, and new concerns over cancer. I don't have the links you want, just going from memory here. Essentially, be aware of the side affects. Go to www.rxlist.com and look at ALL the information on Byetta so you are informed.
There is also a new "once a week" (???? not so sure on this) format for Byetta, if you have a needle aversion, this may be an answer.
Byetta is a DPP (forget which number) which will mean that you don't feel so hungry, there is a problem with the production of these enzymes in type 2 diabetics.
Back to your initial post of gaining 40 lbs while on insulin and metformin.......... there is a lot of information on "Using Insulin" as you don't want to end up "feeding the insulin". This is what causes the weight gain, not the insulin itself (i hope that makes sense).
Hopefully someone type 2 will step in to assist you on this particular issue.

(no longer double diabetic, lost 105 lbs over 3 years and then stopped the metformin) [untreated hashimoto's for those who speculate]
