In fact, the "calories in, calories out" model is long discredited.
Low caloric diets will often yield results. but low carb diets often
yield BETTER results.

Ted, Enough of this non-sense. Authoritative pronouncements without
evidence (pub med peer reviewed pubs) don't count for squat.

The laws of thermodynamics always prevail. There is no free lunch. That
is to say, calories in = energy out. Anyone denying that basic an
understanding of hard facts cannot possibly engage in a rational
discussion of the topic.

The laws of thermodynamics have nothing to do with it. We are NOT
talking about putting gasoline in a calibrated engine on a test bench.

Calories in food are only very rough approximations at best. People
digest different foods at different rates at different times. And we
have little control over what the actual calories USED is.

Exactly. The efficiency with which people digest various foods
varies. An extreme example is how serious diarrhoea can make you lose
weight no matter how much you eat. Thin people often have
significantly shorter guts than stout people, which affects the
efficiency with which they can extract calories from their food. To
assess the efficiency of digestion you need to measure the calories
which go down the toilet.
