Don't know about the 1.2 era, but DOS had *loads* of viruses. That's
where it all started.

So far as I know, most viruses exploit a weakness in the OS. Microsoft
has plenty of them.

It's more like the 95% or more of people who use Windows, so the virus
writers target them. Also Windows tends to have more functionality, which
virus writers exploit. Lots of users complain about the lack of security,
but also don't want to do away with the functionality.
