Especially when the "wah lah" was done on purpose, used often in
*webspeak.* :-)

Cheri

Susan is very lucky to have a friend who always gives her an
"out" when she is rude or uses the wrong word.... Oh to have a
live-in interpreter (and psychic) for one's every faux pas!

Why not just admit you didn't get the joke?

How was it the joke? What was the funny part? Taking a stab at
people who can't spell? Because that's generally who I see using
such a spelling.

Whether or not you or she think it a good joke, and whether or not
you understand it--no, it is not directed at poor spellers--a joke
it clearly was.

Then explain it! Because you obviously "got" it.

Its apparently a joke whereby you "mock" people who spell it wrong but
you aren't really aiming it at poor spellers... How is deliberately
(allegedly) misspelling a word and having a giggle about it amongst
friends NOT mocking a poor speller? Or maybe not even a poor speller,
just someone who hasn't seen the word in print but relied on the
interpretation of how they heard it. I have a daughter (not my child
with Down syndrome) who is a very slow learner and has had a lifetime
of being mocked and ridiculed for the same things. So quite frankly,
people who do what Susan et al do or giggle about "poor spellers"
make me sick. How hard is it to correct a person who spells it wrong
so they actually learn something new? I corrected Susan because I
believe she didn't know the correct spelling as she has written it
wrong quite a few times over the years in serious conversations. But
she claims she was just having a go at poor spellers. Poor form
indeed. "BOTH of those are used in real life, honest, they all drive
me wild, right up there with apostrophes for pluralizations!"

Well gee, thank goodness Susan and her cronies don't have kids with
learning disabilities or they would be "wild" (and intolerant) every
day of their frigging lives.

You said you didn't believe it was intended as a joke.

Did you miss the word "allegedly" and the words "I believe" in the above? Susan claimed it was a joke AFTER Cheri said she "knew" why she said it. I don't believe it was a joke at all. And if perchance it was a joke then its in poor taste to mock people who don't get words right.

Now you are saying that you DO think it was a joke, but one you don't approve of because your daughter is disabled.

Janet, you really need to read what's there, not what you think is there, or want to be there.

Make up your mind.

I did, in my first reply.

I don't believe it is either but...

Folks are saying it is so I would just like someone to explain why it is funny. Yeah, I know if someone has to explain it, it isn't funny. But I can't see in any way shape or form how it could be a joke.

Think about it. The only way it can be a joke is to admit they were making fun of poor spellers. You think they are going to do that now? I can't think of any good reason for deliberately using a wrong word.
