You've been reading Chris for 15 years? Really?
I've been posting to newsgroups since they were first invented and
long before I became diabetic. There are a few folk here who've known
me in newsgroups from long before the inception of asd.
Hmmm!? Not sure what this is. It's either a <woosh> or a post-edit [1].
Again, either dumb or evil.
[snip]
[1] Well, it *is* a post-edit, but perhaps just one *resulting* from a
<woosh>.
What on earth is a "post-edit" in the context of a newsgroup?
A post-edit is when somone silently snips essential material from a
(previous/quoted) post in such a way that it completely changes the
context or/and meaning opf the post, i.e. as you did. It's also a play
of words because of the double meaning, i.e. a post has been edited and
text has been changed after (post) the fact.
Not a term I've come across before, but perhaps a useful one. I used
to hang out in some newsgroups which were very pedantically concerned
with forms of newsgroup argument and can't recall that. Google doesn't
seem familair enough with that usage to bring it up easily
either. Where was this term developed?
If I'd added "[snip]" to my post-edit where I'd edited out bits would
that have stopped it being a post-edit?
