One question came from an ex colleague from IBM, when he asked me to comment
on one of these "get rich" emails he had received - when I told him to just
delete it, he said "but this one is not from Nigeria like the others - this
one is from Hungary... I thought it might be genuine..."

I had an incident that I didn't know whether to laugh or cry last week. I work for an educational institution, which has its own IT department. They sent a broadcast email to staff, faculty and students warning them about "fraudulent phishing emails" (opposed to genuine phishing emails, I guess) which began like:

"If you receive emails requesting your email address and password, delete them. ITS will NEVER request your password in an email. These are attempts to hijack your account!"

So far, so good. BUT- underneath, they pasted TWO complete phishing emails, unmunged!!! After some thought, I clicked on the HTML link in the second email. Yes, it worked. Fortunately, it linked to a Google Docs spreadsheet and Google had removed the actual target because it violated their terms of service.

I almost contacted ITS and complained that the link was broken and I was unable to get my password stolen, but they don't have much of a sense of humor.
