Insulinitis "Purple Pancreas"

The Joslin Diabetes Center gives awards
to survivors of Insulinitis (aka, insulin-
dependent diabetes or juvenile diabetes
or type 1 diabetes) for 25 years, 50 years,
and 75 years.

The Insulinitis "Purple Pancreas" is, instead,
awarded to recognize and honor those with
Insulinitis who've been wounded or killed as
a direct or indirect result of battling Insulinitis.

The award is designed to commemorate and
recognize those who've, due to their involun-
tary battle against Insulinitis that fate has
cursed them/us with, have suffered any of
the following events:

o Loss of cognizance placing one's life,
job, marriage, relationship(s), or health
at risk

o Loss of consciousness placing one's
life, job, marriage, relationship(s), or
health at risk

o Loss of control over one's body or mental
faculties placing one's life, job, marriage,
relationship(s), or health at risk

o Any Insulinitis-related adverse impacts
on any eye

o Any Insulinitis-related adverse impacts
on the kidney

o Any Insulinitis-related adverse impacts
on the heart

o Any Insulinitis-related amputations or
adverse impacts on the circulatory
system leading to a risk of loss of
limb(s)

o Any Insulinitis-related depression or
anxiety or sadness or withdrawl or
other mental health consequences
requiring help from a health profes-
sional or from substances either legal
or illegal

o Any Insulinitis-related adverse health
issue not covered above

o Any Insulinitis-related death to an
Insulinitis victim, either directly or
indirectly causing the death

Needless to say, everyone with Insulinitis
would receive many Purple Pancreases
over their/our lifetime, and I'd venture
a guess that the overwhelming majority
of them/us would receive a Purple Pan-
creas when we die.
