Absolutely, even if they don't go away (and statin damage doesn't
always), it could stop progressing.
And there is absolutely no net benefit in a woman over 50, none.

Did that include over 50 diabetic women? Having diabetes shifts the parameters to make it a whole new ball game re studies. It may well be that the diabetic woman over 50 - i.e. after menopause - (after weighing up the pros and cons) does need a statin. Too little appropriate info. The decisions should be based on all considerations and I haven't seen any studies on over 50 diabetic women. With a large slice missing out of the equation one can't say whether the CVD risks are higher than the risks of taking a statin.
