What exactly is "dawn syndrome"? - I often wake up with what almost
feels like a hangover, does that tie with what's being discussed
here?

Probably not.

Dawn syndrome is when BG is higher in the morning because in the
night the liver decided the body needed more glucose.

Have you been tested for sleep apnea? That could cause the morning
hangover feeling.

I have chronic sinusitis/rhinitis-- only semi-self-diagnosis <G> -- and I
sometimes wake up with that hangoverish feeling when I didn't drink any
alcohol at all the night before. I also sleep badly, and used to snore. I
should probably be tested for sleep apnea, but the mere thought of
sleeping with something attached to me fills me with horror. Maybe I'll
mention to my doctor the next time I see her and see what she thinks...

I can't use the CPAP (long ugly story) but I got a very good bed wedge
from RelaxTheBack (they also have a website) and between that and sleeping
on my side I think I've got it more or less tamed. The reason I think
this is that I almost never get "sleep attacks" any more. (Fatigue is not
the same thing.) My apnea is considered "mild to moderate" though.

Please see the other post I wrote about this describing how they determine
whether a person has it.

I use a bed wedge for GERD. I took it to the hospital with me when I had my
sleep study. Didn't seem to help. I was still diagnosed with apnea.
