Interesting. I think that what enabled me to change my whole WOE
aftiagnsis and then 10 years later after coming to ASD, was the fear.
this so overrodeother things that I got over the hump of the big change.
That and my developing the "game" I call "Cheating the Diabetes," which is
essentially finding ways to adapt recipes for things I like to make them
ciabetic and low carb , rahter than crying and saying "I can never eat
that again." This is where my cheesecake recipe, tofu mousse and
Thanksgiving adaptations, as well a fauxtatoes, etc, tht I enjoy. One
thing that helped was that my mother never made thickened gravies, so my
thin ones are quite like what I grew up with. I do have to watch when I
eat out that I remember that they are not cooking like I do, so I can't
eat their cheesecake, etc:-(
perhaps it is mind over matter, or simple fear. I was the first diabetic
in my whole family as far back as I can tell so I had no experience with
people who took the atitude of "I have a touch of the sugar" and then go
on to not change their food patterns much. I, reallly, was scared and my
PCP had put the fear of God into me, so tht helped.

Mine wasn't actually fear for myself. My last 4 kids were born when I was an older mother. One as you know has Down syndrome. My motivation to get and stay healthy was to hopefully be around a lot longer for their sake.
