: And you don't think its true that healthy people drop dead suddenly
: while exercising? I know of 4 personally who did just that.
: One was the 15 year old son of an online friend I know from a diabetic
: chatroom who died in gym class. Another was my neighbour's ex wife who
: dropped dead jogging. One was a 32 year old fellow soldier of my ex
: husband's who died doing morning PT. Another was a friend's 18 year old
: daughter who was playing netball. There is currently in our newspapers
: the little 4 year old who had a near miss and was revived. All had
: underlying and unknown heart problems that can cause sudden death
: without warning during exercise or physical activity.
that sems to be the usul issues with High School athletes that get
reported periodically after they die. As for runners, it sounds like that
Quincy story Julie mentioned may have been based on Jim Fixx, the running
advocate who died of a heart attack in either his late 40's or early 50's.
Interestingly, it turns out his father had died of heart problems in his
30's, so Jixx's running may have given hime an extra decade or tow.
Or not. My cousin had her daughter checked for heart problems as a baby because of a genetic disorder that can effect 1/3 of those born with it. She decided to have her son checked at the same time. The daughter with the disorder was cleared but the son has the heart problem that can cause sudden death during exercise. He is to be treated when he is around 20 or so. That's all I know. So perhaps these people would have lived longer if they had remained physically inactive. My uncle lived an extraordinarily longer time than expected with cardiomyopathy and doctors put it down to the fact he was bedridden. i.e. normal life activity may have killed him a lot sooner.
