I've been on the cold shower routine for a few weeks now. It is currently four showers (30-60 second or a couple of minute dousings with cold water) a day (at least) - one first thing in the morning; one when I get home from work; one before I exercise and the last one before bed. Results have been admirable. The symptoms I posted about many times here - lower body sensation/drowsiness/tiredness - have been reduced by about 90%.
The main thing for me, though, has been the improvement in my diabetes management: After the pre-exercise shower I found I can up my exercise bike speed from about 25kph to 30kph; My FBG - which had increased to an unpleasant 6.5 - 7, is now generally below 5; My post exercise bg - which had started rising rather than falling - is now much falling again; I now even get the odd mild hypo.
I had gradually increased my Novorapid from 10 units a day to as high as 15 before my main meal - now I am taking only 13, and will probably lower it further; Having increased my Lantus at bedtime from 21 units to as high as 25, I have recently lowered it to 23, and will probably lower that further too.
I expect to be in the five percent club again at the next HbA1c test. Yes, I do realise that according to some select surveys I might have a shorter lifespan, but I am willing to take the chance (I promise to update asd as to the relative time I die at).
As I said in an earlier more serious post, I believe the cold showers have not resolved my original problem, but so far they have nicely got around it. I am pleased my diabetes management has been restored.
Now - where were we??? That's right - plumbing in Oregon.....
About to hop in for my cold dousing......
Henry.
Wow, what fantastic news! KUTGW!
