Reading through the standards of care document that Chris cited, I
came across this nugget in the section dealing with care of
hospitalized patients:

"Hospital diets continue to be ordered by calorie levels based on
the "ADA
diet." However, since 1994 the ADA has not endorsed any single meal
plan or
specified percentages of macronutrients, and the term "ADA diet"
should no
longer be used. "

Yet just last month the ADA's publication described their standard
diet as 55% carbs.

There's lots of talking out of both sides of their mouths,
definitely some tension in the ranks at the ADA. Witness the battle
over one ADA employee contracting for a low carb cookbook and the
subsequent battle til the deal was killed.

OMG! This stuff just never dies!

I know you have a problem dealing with anything that is complex and
non-linear, Julie, but the fact is that many ADA public statements are just
that. I think that it is likely that people within the ADA have differing
opinions on such matters and that that is reflected in their public
statements. What's surprising about that? Nothing. It is in the nature of a
body of knowlege that is ever-expanding and ever-changing.
