It is.
You're already retaining fluids, and the drug he gave you carries an
elevated risk of congestive heart failure.
I urge you to do two things: 1) ask your pharmacist to run an
analysis of drug interactions and contraindications for all your
meds and supplements, ASAP. They have software for this; you have
to share your diagnoses, meds and supplements with them.
OK, I did just that while your post was on my screen. She told me
that was automatic. So I asked her how come the Januvia didn't bounce
and she said that was because the computer didn't know I had had
pancreatitis. True enough. And on the Actos she said the computer
didn't know I was retaing fluid. But wait! Why would I be taking
furosemide? I pointed that out to her. She finally brushed it all off
by saying that no matter *what* I take, it is going to have side
effects of some kind or another.
Precisely the reason NOT to take medication unless it is really necessary.
Congestive heart failure is not a minor side effect! I think it likely that
you can bring down your BGs with diet alone, and improve that situation with
exercise.
2) Find a competent gerontologist; since you say you live in the
boonies, perhaps at the closest regional hospital center.
Another word to look up... :-)
But right now, I really need to get some work done!
Thanks for listening (and commenting, of course)
I wonder if this was an actual pharmacist or a clerk.... People are always
claiming that pharmacists actually do something other than count pills into
bottles ... I've yet to see any evidence of it. Obviously she will
cheerfully sell you the pills even if they have an unacceptable chance of
killing you.
So, are you going to take the Actos? An alternative plan: immediately ask
your doctor to raise your metforim dose to 2000 mg per day and give you an
immediate referral to a dietician and and some kind of physical
therapist/exercise physiologist who can help you put together a strength and
cardio plan that works with your joint problems (or whatever that kind of
expert is called: I know they are out there) ?
