: That's simply not true Wendy, I've posted lots of studies using higher
: carb diets that produce positive results. The only reason I posted the
: weight loss diet in this thread is because Chris Macolm recently
: insinuated that carbs must be cut to have significant weight loss and
: fat burning. Also - weight loss by itself (even if your not
: overweight) is a powerful (maybe the most powerful) medicine for
: diabetes. The fact that weight comes off quickly (at least initially)
: with low carb diets is possibly the biggest benefit for these diets.
: I have never denied the positive benefits folks have achieve with
: their approaches or encouraged anyone to change. What I've tried to do
: is show that there is of a lot of data for results which many folks
: here deny a priori. The other thing I do is counter unsubstantiated
: claims and statements. Unfortunately, many here, and you just recently
: take this as a personal affront, which it isn't. I'm always very
: specific in what I criticize, but it's often generalized into
: something I never said that's taken personal.
: About 4 years ago I came to ASD when I discovered I was prediabetic
: and approaching the dreaded FBG of 125. I was immediately assailed
: when I asked if higher carb diets could work. I'd heard of this, but
: it seemed contradictory. How could increased carbs help, surely common
: sense would dictate that carbs be cut and cut drastically. By just
: asking a question here, I was ostracized and accused of being a plant
: from some imaginary high carb counter force. It became very clear the
: the folks (at least the ones responding at that time) here were more
: interested in reinforcing their belief systems than science.
: Having some experience in research, I did my own investigation and was
: astounding at how complex and nuanced the data actually is. Something
: I never would have become aware if my source of information only came
: from ASD.

Ok Randy, but what kind of ddiet is working FOR YOU? How have YOU found a
way to maintain control? Are you still pre-diabetic, so hve avoided the
drop into full diabetes? If wo, how have YOU done this? this is what
most of us are concerned with-what forks for eachof us. I think warring
studies really belongs on the diabetic health groups rather than the
support one. We can all read both groups if we choose.
Wendy
Agree.
Far too much net nannyism. All kinds of things are discussed here, with
practically no direct support for diabetics, so what's the point. All
newsgroups become whatever the users want out of them, not what a
few of the users want them to be. Nothing kills newsgroups so quickly
as "shut up and only discuss the things *I* want to discuss!".
And Ellen, if this is not a group for information then much, if not most, of
your participation has been off topic. However I don't believe that's true,
regardless of Wendy's take on the matter.
Wendy's dissatisfaction is something for Wendy to deal with, not for
everyone else to cow-tow to her whims.
I was shot down when Syd first died and I provided some support for
her, with a mention that I had gone through the deceased spouse
tribulations some decades back. So I shut up about it.
I'll say here and now that when that day comes, it is time to grab oneself
by the shoulders and pull oneself back into living in a world that's
different from the one we previously enjoyed. If a grief counselor is
necessary, get help, but don't take personal problems out on this group
or any other innocents who aren't responsible for the personal misery.
