Last year at about this time, they stole the extension cord for the Christmas lights and also my gecko. The gecko was eventually returned.

This year they stole the lights from the trees out front. They left the one strand on the bushes. Sad thing is they are fairly new lights. The candy cane ones had too many burned out so we bought LED green ones. Gah!

And now I am off to take Angela to the Dr. Probably a sinus infection. And then see about my dad who is in the hospital. Probably a kidney infection or UTI. But I don't know because I can't reach anyone by phone who knows anything. My brother took him in yesterday. He took his FIL in on Christmas day with seemingly the same symptoms. Gah! If it's not one thing it's another.

About a 1/4 century ago, I was thinking of going with a larger light display and while listening to the news the morning I was going to go buy the extra strings, I heard a series of display thefts had occurred at homes around mine.

Since then I've put up one small set where they can be stolen until a few years back when I started setting up a small lighted nativity.

Our yard is such that you can't see the house at all from the road. Only the trees. Which is why I put them on the trees.

It is pathetic that there are some in this world that find they would rather harm someone else than being tolerant.

I don't think people who steal holiday lights are doing it to send a message about holiday lights, they are doing it because they are people who steal things. Holiday lights are easy to steal, being outside the house. How much they can get for them I don't know. Maybe they just do it for the thrill of it.

A display, of itself, harms no one. It is an expression of feelings about something, a First Amendment right.

If the display is a burning cross or a swastika, it is harmful.

The same right as someone that makes a comment or statement about a topic.

But the type and style of a response to a statement or display shows the true nature of the respondent.
