Edinburgh Weather Report

Hundreds, possibly thousands of motorists stranded in their cars
overnight by snow. Taking the bus to the supermarket yesterday I had
my first experience of a double decker bus in a skid! Very exciting
when it threatened to go broadside on a steep hill! Not surprisingly
they soon cancelled all city buses and I had to walk two miles home on
hilly snow covered pavements carrying 24lbs of food. I saw lots of
people shouting down their mobile phones at taxi firms, but never saw
a single taxi on the walk home.

I need to do some more shopping today. I may have to walk the entire
trip, a circuit of about five miles. I think I'll take the
bicycle. Even if I can't ride it all the way it can act as a weight
carrying trolley.

But before that I must put some plywood over the top of my
conservatory roof to catch the huge slabs of ice that are creeping
glacier like off the house roof some thirty feet above and now
overhang about a foot. Otherwise they'll smash straight through the
conservatory roof when they fall.
