Re: NEJM report on European Ssudy: turkey, no stuffing or starchy carbs to maintain weight loss

That shows that the substitution of some of the high-sugar component
with starches seriously reduces or even stops the fatty acid
synthesis. It will also inevitably reduce the glycemic load of the
diet because the starches will have a lower GI than the liquid
sugar. It doesn't therefore contradict my speculative (and IMHO not
unreasonable) suggestion that if the glycemic loads were matched, the
fatty acid synthesis would return.

Your speculation is very doubtfull, because:

1.
Both diets were calorie equivalent for energy balance and both
inculded the same amount of carbobhydrate (75%).

2.
The only way to increase the GL of the starch diet would be to
increase the amount of carbohydrate above energy needs (folks feed
more than they ate).

3.
This situation has been studied. That is, overfeeding more starch
calories beyound energy needs And DNL (creating fat out of carbs) is
not increased.
Let me know if you'd like the reference and I'll dig it up.
