I can give two sound reasons:

1) No endo in my town ... closest: 50+ miles and he won't pay for my gas to
get the and back. oh, and I would have no other reason to drive there, so no
combining trips.

2) Not covered by Medicare ... as in the Endo doesn't accept Medicare. And
over half my SSI goes for the mortgage ( nad I haven't lived in the house
long enough for a re-finance).

Obviously the decisions are yours to make, however I consider those
excuses. If your diabetes weren't under acceptable (to you) control,
you'd find a way to get to the endo's office.

Ah, yes ... one person's reasons are always someone else's "excuses".

You're not in my shoes so don't think you know where I walk, please.

And my last A1c: 6.1 ... been in the high 5's and low 6's for 6 years now ... sounds like good control to me.

By federal law, a physician not accepting Medicare may only charge 15%
above the Medicare approved amount for services. That makes such
visits affordable. They should be willing to take your money and file
the paperwork so that you can get reimbursed by Medicare for all but
15%. Considering the level of co-pays, that's really a manageable amount.

Right, sure ... if you think all doctors will fill out those forms, you're wrong. You'd be surprised at the number that will only take certain insurances ONLY, not even cash... and this endo is one of them.

And, no, I don't have medical insurance.

If I am not mistaken, any time housing costs more than 30% of income it
is considered a high risk loan carrying a higher interest rate. The poor
always pay more.

So, how "poor" is trying to live on less than $1500 / month to you? That's my SSI and the wife's part-time income as she waits for her disability to be approved (COPD, sleep apnea, chronic asthma, O2 24/7) and we'll get a whopping raise to $1899. Man, gotta have a big old blowout party!!!! NOT!!!!

The home is a 15 yr contract purchase from our Landlady, who has been an angel in working with us especially when the already been chewed and digested food product hits the rotary air relocation device. We've not missed a payment yet but she's said we could slide one month if neccessary.

I drive a 22 year old Jeep Cherokee with 300,000 + miles on it and I have a broken down 1952 Cushman scooter that I may never be able to afford to get running.

Now, that's roughly my situation ... but I'll accept donations of $500,000 or more if offered. <VBG>

Have you investigated the possibility of qualifying for Medicaid? Also, if you're already old enough for Medicare, you're old enough to qualify for a reverse mortgage on the house (if you have equity).
