There is some good news about the Michelob Ultra I drink. After being
on this "drug" for several months, I find that the nasty mental and
physical effects are greatly diminished. I am acquiring a tolerance. I
don't feel nearly so drunk from drinking a single beer. I realize some
may laugh at the thought of feeling drunk from a single beer, but I
spent my entire life without drinking alcohol. I had no tolerance. In
the beginning, one beer made me feel drunk, (this feels awful to me)
and reduced my balance. Meaning I could easily trip and fall down.

I do not laugh at all!
To me, one beer gives a buzz that is pleasant to me, and results in too
much alcohol in my blood to drive. (Good thing I don't have a car :-) )

It does bring my BG down, but my numbers have been so good lately that
I don't drink every day.

Was it Alan who suggested having a pre-breakfast snack in the morning
to stop the DP? It seemed to work wonders for me, thanks very much!

I take my FBG as soon as I awake in the morning, then immediately have
the protein shake.

This morning I had a few almonds, about 10 g, FBG a little later was 6.8,
not bad at all when 7.2 is the diagnostic limit. Peaked at 7.5 an hour
after breakfast, also very good.
A couple of hours of community "gardening" work yesterday probably helped.

Thanks Bjorn for not laughing at me. I start my day with a protein shake
to bring down my FBG. If it is a bad FBG, I start the day with a beer to
bring it way down. I have figured out finally that pretty consistently
my FBG is related to how many hours I have slept. If I sleep 10 hours, I
know I am going to be looking at an FBG in 130s. Too close to 140 for my
comfort zone. A beer first thing in the morning really sucks.

Yuk - I don't think I could make myself do that, except in extremity -
and it would certainly make me drunk, too! OTOH I can't sleep as long as
10 hours :-)

But it seems that a small snack of cottage cheese at bedtime plus a
handful of almonds or nuts when I wake up can beat the dawn phenomenon.

Glad to hear that the beer gives you a pleasant buzz. I wish it did for
me. Besides effecting my cognitive and balance functions it just makes
me feel crummy. It sort of puts a barrier between me and the world. It
dulls my senses.

Oh, it would almost certainly affect me that way, too, in the morning!
When I was younger and travelling a lot (in business) I was advised by a
wise man to avoid "the hair of the dog that bit you". That way lies
alcoholism, and I realized that the "pleasant buzz" could escalate.

I had a beer once and then did yoga. Wow, I will never do that again. It
absolutely ruined my yoga experience. I felt like some sort of automaton
going through the motions.
