Let's see, I was right in what I wrote about 1 unit of insulin
dispensed
for every 15 carbs being typical.

I checked the references you gave. They were all for type 1. There
doesn't seem to be an equivalent typical carb-related dosage for type
2 insulin users. Their dosages seem to be much more variable, and more
complex to calculate. You were right about type 1, but not type 2.

It is "typical". Do you have trouble understanding the word?

No. That's why I made the comment I did. Type 2 diabetics are by far
the most common kind of insulin using diabetic. Your comment about
typical dose/carb relationship is only typical for type 1
diabetics. It's untypical for insulin using diabetics in general.

I challange you to prove that more type 2's use insulin than type 1's. The
entire thrust of modern medicine is to get type 2's off injected insulin
if at all possible, and it is much more possible than previously thought.

The latest figures I can easily find are from the National Diabetes
Fact Sheet, 2007.

http://www.cdc.gov/diabetes/pubs/pdf/ndfs_2007.pdf

In there you will find two figures. The first is that 27% of diagnosed
US diabetics use insulin. The second is that type 2 diabetics are
90-95% of the population of diagnosed diabetics. Pretty conclusive
unless you can come up with some more modern figures showing your
claimed big swing away form insulin in type 2 treatment.

All type 1's *must* use injected insulin to survive.

Three doctors, three diabetes nurses, two NP's, and one hospital all have
recommended 1 unit of insulin to 15 grams of carbs plus meter as typical.
I am a type 2. Their recommendations were not atypical. A friend living
nearby, also a type 2, was also told to use 1/15. In my reading I've seen
1/10 though not as frequently. Your experience and "investigation" seem
rather limited.

It wasn't anecdotal. I could tell you what those of my friends who are
doctors tell me, but IMHO a much sounder rebuttal can be found simply
by searching the treatment guidelines of several national
authoritative sites including the ADA, Joslin, and Diabetes UK. They
all gave the kind of figure you quoted for type 1s. They all refused
to give any figure for type 2s, giving as the reason the much greater
variability and dependence on a variety of widely varying factors.

I assume that the only reason you're bothering to tell me what doctors
abd diabetics nurses told you in person is that you were unable to
find any typical values for T2s cited in authoritative diabetic
treatment guidelines. As was I. Which is why I made the claim that I
did :-)

Sorry Chris - I should have read on before using the same source to
come to a similar conclusion :)

Cheers, Alan, T2, Australia.
