This sounds
to me like there is also dementia--not at all surprising,..
under the circumstances.

Hi Mary,
IME many folks who have surgery have a long-lasting (weeks or months)
BUT _temporary_ dementia as a (well-known to docs) reaction to the
anesthesia. Very scary for my roommates that have had it .. 3 in the
last year so it must be quite common. As the dementia subsided and they
finished Physical Therapy they all were able to return home.
..
They had frequent visitors and phone calls to help them re-orient
themselves frequently through the days and weeks. I'm sure that helped.
The last lady was 93 and went home on a Monday to celebrate her 94th
birthday on Tuesday. :)
