Do you intend to be proactive? I'm not a doc - and I'm not on insulin.
But the moment I go on insulin, I'll read every section of
Dr.Bernstein's 'Diabetes Solution' before I do anything else. As I
understand it, the typical procedure is to prescribe a given amount of
insulin and then expect the patient to manage his diet to live with
that amount. Dr. Bernstein uses a proactive procedure - of knowing what
every carb you eat will do to your system and, coordinating that with
activity levels, adjusts the insulin to cover what you're doing. Much
more efficient and much more controllable - also more work.


If insulin resistance were being provoked by insulin itself, would not
taking more insulin actually produce more insulin resistance? Just a
question for which I do not know the answer.
