On the website for the meter, Tricare is not mentioned. However on the
Tricare site, that meter is mentioned. I still do not want to switch
though. Would be a pain to have to get all new prescriptions like I had
to
do when I got the Contour. Plus that meter looks really big.
I'll tell you I am really getting into this civilian medical care
after so many years at the local base. No problems at all for
prescriptions from either local Walgreens, paper to take out to local
base, or they will even fax in for mail order. I am sure it depends on
doctors, but so far the ones I have seen are more than accommodating..
Last night I wound up losing my lancing device. I had been talking on the
phone to a friend. She is one of those people who says she really has to
go
but 2 hours later you find that you are still talking to her. So I tried
to
test while talking.
I opened the case that I am currently using. Out popped the meter,
strips,
lancing device and a bunch of needles. All over the floor. It took a
flashlight and some searching to find the lancing device. It had landed
up
against the computer processor and they are the same color.
Then I wound up wasting several strips. Apparently there was not enough
blood on the strip. I am no good at holding the phone and doing a test.
Mine beeps when there is enough blood and then starts the 5 sec. count
down. I have had to add blood a couple times, but don't know how long
you have before it fails to test.
I saw on TV, the world's smallest meter. It is round and fits on the top
of
the strip canister. Now that would be handy! It is not listed on
Tricare's
formulary. Only four meters were listed on their website, but I remember
getting something in the mail that listed a lot more. *shrugs*
"The SideKick All-In-One Blood Glucose Testing System 50 Strips and
Built-In Meter is a unique system unlike any other glucose level
testing system on the market today. This convenient all-in-one system
features a vial of 50 test strips with its own built-in meter for
blood glucose level testing so you can test with the SideKick anytime
and anywhere." Runs from $30 on up.
That must be it.
Four meters/strips on the basic $9 formulary, and the others are $22
unless you get the medical necessity form filled out and then back to
$9 for me at least. Active duty basic might be free?
Only free if you can get it at base medical which I can not here.
Last year when the letter came out about the changes all you had to do
was call one of the four companies and they would send a free meter.
Some of the reading seems to indicate you can still do the same thing.
Mention insurance and husband active duty if that still applies...
I picked up the newer model of the meter last year when I was in
Walgreens picking up a prescription and the meter was on sale for $10.
