I can't eat any fruit without spiking my BG. So, I don't eat any fruit.
I eat a fair amount of protein. Protein actually drives down my BG.
So what would a chicken breast and some fruit do?
A chicken breast and 1/3 of a peach would cause an increase of something
in the 20's in my BG.
So, if I started at 100, I could expect a reading an hour later of about
125.

Excellent result! Why don't you do that?
PP
Well, I don't do that because I don't want to see a reading of 125 in the middle of the day. I am used to seeing those kinds of numbers at my morning FBG. However, now that I am trying 1.7 ounces rum at night time, I get better FBGs. This morning was my best so far, 102. As you can imagine, having had a nice number like that, I am not in the mood to trash that figure by eating any fruit.
Like I said earlier in a response to my present situation. Maybe I should not change what I am doing. Accepting the numbers I have is safe. My current beta blocker dose is a little high, I think because of my orthostatic fainting. If I can lower that dose just enough to stop that effect, I could live with what I got.
I see the temptation to continue eating what we want is great. My neighbor certainly shows me that example. When he gets down to the one teens, he is ready for fruit and cookies. He tells me his doctor told him that 180 is really the only danger point. He feels that just keeping mostly below 180 is fine. He also told me that an A1C of 8 is not good but 7 is great and he just got his A1C back at 7.2 and was very happy. I suppose it is possible his physician actually told him this.
It would certainly be nice if they had a magic pill that would cure T2. I could go back to eating exactly what I liked. That pill will not be available in my lifetime.
BTW did anyone notice in the medical news about the stem cells injected into the liver of an Iraq soldier who lost his pancreas in battle? His liver now contains pancreatic cells and produces insulin.
