Sadly there are too many examples, both recent such as Congo or Rwanda
and forgotten ones from last century such as the Armenian genocide by
the Turks in 1915:

My father fought in the islands to our north in WWII and later died
too young from jungle diseases as a consequence. I am one of those who
has difficulty forgiving the generation in Germany and Japan who
perpetrated the horrors of that war. I have close links to Germany now
but I still have a difficulty with the culture.

Yes, genocide was hardly invented by Hitler; he was just incredibly adept at carrying it out.
