well, 5 years ago, my GP refused to treat hypothyroid

over the next 3 years i gained about 105 lbs :(
then i got pushy and asked him 'i have gained XX, what do you plan to do for the hypothyroid'

2 years ago, end of Nov, i was put on synthroid

i cut my carb intake to 100 grams a day and lost weight for 7 months, then stalled for 5 months........... at which point i realized, geeeee i have to cut the carbs again...... down to 80 grams a day

i'm eating a moderate amount of protein, LOTS of the 'free veggies', and restricting my carb intake as above

i'm now into size 9 clothes :) and i'm thrilled!!!!!!!

took a lot of time (i'm still not finished) and perseverance, but it paid off in the long run :)

good luck to others who are trying to lose weight! may you find what works for you!

Good going. So nice to hear a success story. These stories encourage me to keep at it. I was diagnosed 3 weeks ago. I have been on severe carb restriction since then. I eat less than 10 carbs per day.

My FBG just won't change. (always around 120) I suspect I just need to be patient about this. Hopefully maybe in a few months I will see a change. I have been losing weight rapidly. I have lost 7 pounds since diagnosis.

Kate, I feel like there may be an upside eventually. Your weight loss has been dramatic. I would love to be where you are now. I must be patient and keep working at it. Clearly, it can be done. You certainly deserve praise for the work you have done.

Michael

Michael, thank you for your kind words :)

patience, and never giving up............. it took me 2 yrs, 2 mo to lose that weight........... slow but sure and it should stay off as well

10 grams a day of carbs is pretty low..... :( as in, well, have you spoken to your Dr about this diet? and is he following you?

i sure hope you can sort out the bg levels, soon, and congratulations on YOUR weight loss! well done!

kate

No Kate, I have not spoken with my doctor about my diet. I figured he would think it was a bad idea so I did not tell him.

I am using my wife as an example for me to follow. She ate this way for about 4 months before she allowed herself to eat any more than that. She did reverse a lot of her insulin resistance by doing this.

I wish there were a simple pill to take to reverse insulin resistance. Maybe some day.

Michael

metformin, actos and avandia are all supposed to do that, to varying degrees........

good luck with your diet, i wish you much success!
