Oh-oh, does it have the same contraindications with medications?

Any contra-indications for meds other than with statins?
I see that simvastatin (and possibly others) "may increase your
risk for liver probs (Alcohol can also increase this risk)", and that
grapefruit may potentiate or increase the statin in your blood (my
comment: That can't be ALL bad, can it?)
But the main precaution is "The risk may be greater with large amounts
of gf or gf juice. Avoid large amounts of gf and gfj (eg, more than one
quart daily)".

So I assume a single portion of grapefruit 2 or 3 times a week can't
hurt. Grapefruit being so expensive, I sometimes will take a sip of
about 2 ounces of gfj a couple of times a day with my iron and calcium
supplements, in lieu of my usual dose of tomato juice. The acid helps
the body use the iron.

(On the other hand, I should say, the 2 statins I have used over the
years have never caused me the problems with muscle damage or pain that
they have caused my cousin.)

I have posted here before.

Some more recent research pointed out a potential interraction from
other citrus juices.

I suspect it depends how many medications you are taking which are
broken down by the Cytochrome P450 system, statins and grapefruit
juice were contraindicated but in small quantities and not taken
simultaneously the effect seems to be non-dangerous.

it's complex, first there's the effect in the gut, then there's a
potential effect within the liver, depending on what else you're
taking plasma levels may either be increased or decreased
.
