I can't say with certainty, but that may be very wrong, too.
Most folks I know of with GERD and IBS report that it goes away with low
carb. In fact, those and asthma disappearing are the most common
anecdotal reports I recall from the many who used to post to the low
carb group.

Let me add my agreement with that. I had acid reflux on a Standard
American Diet. I was using acid blockers (combined with antacids)
every day to control it. When I switched to a Lowcarb Diet the acid
reflux went away immediately.

I gradually drifted from a "low" carb diet to more of a "somewhat low"
carb diet and started to have reflux symptoms every now and then.
When I dropped the carbs back a bit the reflux disappeared completely
again.

With SOME people it may be more a matter of a food intolerances than
total carbs. For example, if you have a food intolerance to wheat a
lowcarb diet will cut your consumption of wheat along with all the
other carbs. For those people, just cutting out the food that they
react to would be enough. But for most people the total carbs seem to
be the issue.
