Re: Stocking up for inclement weather.

As you may have heard/read, we are having unseasonably cold temperatures in here the Pacific Northwest. We've had snow and ice and are slated to get more, many times in the upcoming week. I just tried to get my Lantus via the drive through at the pharmacy and all of the windows are either iced shut or the motors are burning out. I'm betting on iced shut.

I hate snow and it always sends me into a panic mode. So I decided while I could get out, I would once again make a trip to the grocery store to stock up. And of course Angela informed me that she had a severe sore throat just as we entered the store. Grrrreat! I don't want to have to go back to the Dr. again for that! They're going to think we live there.

So for her, I bought some more chicken broth (already bought a case at Costo, but it's in a hard to get to spot in the garage), and a Push Pop. She claimed that a few licks of the Push Pop made her throat feel better. *Crosses fingers*

But after that, I was unsure of what to buy. My friend and I had this conversation the other day. She said most people bought eggs, milk and bread. I added peanut butter to that list. I already had the peanut butter. Bought that the other day. Don't consume eggs and milk, although I did buy some more milk for husband. Bought him some eggs the other day. I did buy another loaf of bread because what I have expires on the 20th. And when this bread expires, it seems to go instantly moldy.

Placed an order for single serve foods for Angela the other day. It should arrive any day. Need to place another order for some more gluten free bread for her.

But what else to buy? I picked up some pecans and walnuts at the health food store. Also some things for Angela. A couple of chocolate and date raw food bars (a quick meal replacement), Tings, rice chips, and rice yogurt.

At the grocery store I bought canned green beans (Angela and I will eat them straight from the can), Hormel Italian style pre-cooked Roast Beef au jus, single serve cups of tuna, some junk for husband like Lunchables, Deli Melts and microwavable hot dogs on buns (I know, but he likes them!) and a few sundries that I thought I might need.

I should add that I went to two other grocery stores in the past week, and Costco last week. So we have plenty of canned stuff. And meat. The cupboard is stuffed full of pasta, rice (both cooked and uncooked), pouches of pre-cooked chicken breast, and cereals, both cold and hot. And since Angela won that food package at Manna Mills, I have enough gluten free baking stuff to last me a long time, should I decide to bake it.

So anyway... When you know you have inclement weather coming your way, what do you stock up on?

Julie, regardless of the weather conditions, i always have a '5 pack' of insulin cartridges for my basal/bolus insulin

the weather doesn't always give us enough warning to get to the pharmacists

i have an extra month of ALL meds on hand at ALL times

this beats the days when i found out i was out of basal insulin, 5 min before the store (6 min away) was closing........ the pharmacist and a cashier waited for me (thank goodness, this was very good of them)
